Which Moss for Which Reptile Tank

In short

How live moss helps hold humidity in snake, gecko, frog and turtle setups, and where to put it in the tank.

Live moss is not just decoration in a vivarium. It holds moisture, softens the ground and gives animals a spot to hide, dig or shed against.

Why live moss instead of dried

Real live moss holds moisture better than dried moss and helps keep humidity steady. Our Reptile 3-Pack page also notes it rehydrates within about 5–10 minutes of misting.

Where it helps most

  • Geckos: a moist corner or a humid hide for shedding.
  • Snakes: a damp hide box and soft cover on top of the substrate.
  • Frogs: a forest-floor layer that stays damp.
  • Turtles: nesting or burrowing areas.

Mixing textures

The 3-Pack and the Duo Pack both include different moss types, so you can mix a flat sheet moss with a fluffier one for a more natural floor.

Q: How big is each sheet?

A: Each sheet in the Reptile 3-Pack is about 3.5" × 7".

Q: What if I cannot use it right away?

A: The product page says to store it in a cool place below 73°F (23°C) — up to 4 months for the Reptile 3-Pack.

Q: Does moss replace my humidity routine?

A: No. Keep following your animal's care needs; the moss helps hold the moisture you add.
